It's The Little Things

Today I'd like to share a little bit about my hubby. He's a very hard working man. His days are long and his complaints are nill. He's a team player at home. If it needs to be done, he'll do it promptly. He's a fantastic dad in every sense of the word. The first thing he does when he walks in the door is ask me how my day was. He has a sense of humor that surfaces when you least expect it. He shows interest in the things that make me happy. He is smart. He loves numbers. What does that mean? Well, he can calculate just about anything in his head before I can enter it into the calculator. He knows exactly how many miles there are from one point to another in his commute and how much time it will take him to get there. He gets up at exactly the same time every morning, watches the clock to make sure he's on track, and leaves the house promtly on schedule. Did I tell you he loves numbers?
A few weeks ago, he walked in the door with a huge smile on his face and a contagious excitement in his voice. "Come here", he said. "I have something to show you". Well, my heart skipped a beat. My mind started racing. I couldn't imagine what he brought home from work and I was very excited to see. It must be something extra special. I followed him into the garage...he led me to the drivers side of the car....he told me to get in........and then he pointed to this:
The odometer had turned to 200,000 miles. That's what he wanted to show me. I must admit there was a fleeting moment when I felt a tad of disappointment that the odometer was the surprise......until I saw the twinkle in his eye. He had been waiting for that to happen. And he loves numbers. It's the little things that make him happy and I'm glad I'm the one he shares them with. I smile now whenever I think of that moment. Nothing he brought home that day could have been better than the excitement he shared with me. It's definitely all about the little things.

  1. Sweet story! And you're right ... it's all about the little things.

Now that you've piqued my curiousity what type of vehicle got 200,000 miles?

  2. It's a Honda Civic. They're mostly highway miles and we're hoping it'll last for a few more years :)

  3. My sister sent me a link to a story/video about a 91-year-old woman with a 45 year old car that has 559,000 miles on it. Made me smile.
