Lavender Bliss

:: Growing in the garden ::
:: Harvested and drying in bundles :: :: Ready to use and smelling heavenly ::
:: A gift for Nana ::
My grandmother (Nana) lives in an assisted living facility nearby. She's ninety-two years old but you'd never know it. She's had to downsize considerably over the years, but she still loves to fiddle with her home and make it beautiful. I cut some lavender for her in June and she kept it in a vase until the buds started to drop. On my last visit, she remarked that she had collected the buds and put them in a baggie in her dresser drawer. "I just love the smell of lavender", she said. I thought she deserved to have something nicer than a baggie to freshen up her room. I made her the lavender eye pillow and slipcover which is a free pattern from Amy Butler. I filled it with one cup of organic flax seed and one half cup of lavender. She can put it in the freezer or the microwave to soothe her tired eyes or simply use it as a sachet to fill her space with the beautiful lavender fragrance. This was a fun, quick project to make and so satisfying to use something from the garden. I'll definitely be making a few more of these.

  1. I love lavender too and try as I might every year I can never seem to get it to grow. :( Your gift sounds wonderful!

  2. That is a special gift! I'm sure she'll love it!

    Lavender is a big challenge here in south Louisiana. I've stopped trying to grow it.
