Homegrown

We harvested our very first lettuce leaves this weekend. I wish I could name the varieties but the market pack didn't have a tag and I can't, for the life of me, remember what I bought. Anyway, they're growing like crazy and I thoroughly enjoyed taking my time snipping each little leaf. I read somewhere that produce stays fresh longer if wrapped in a cotton or linen towel when stored in the fridge. I've been doing just that and it's working pretty well :: one more way to eliminate plastic storage bags. The wooden bowl and utensils were purchased several years ago at an estate yard sale. The adult children said this salad set was made by their father for their mother. Sold. To dress up the lettuce I decided to try Kelli's Spicy Garlic Salad Dressing (scroll down the page, it's there). The only change I made to the recipe was to use Raspberry vinegar instead of red since that's what I had on hand. I also forgot to put the fresh herbs in. Still delicious! This makes a small portion, just enough for about three salads if you go heavy on the dressing like we do. This salad dressing has pizazz. Make sure your honey eats it too...just sayin.
