Garden Lessons I've Learned #1 - Revised

Let's start this post with something beautiful. On May 15th (after the danger of frost has passed) I'm planting these petunias in a big pot that sits in our front-yard garden bed. I can hardly wait!
Now for the not-so-beautiful :: the result of 41 mph winds on a freshly mulched garden. So, this afternoon, the straw was removed....... and leaf compost was put in its place. Garden Lessons I've Learned #1 - Revised: Compost, paper and leaves are all good choices for the vegetable garden because they are easily removable and they decompose rapidly. Straw is also a good choice unless you live in a very windy area.
